“The St. Louis Children’s Choirs not only offers exceptional musical training experiences to hundreds of children each year, but is also a vital thread in our city’s artistic fabric.  Your vision…develops the thought and critical judgment process as well as vocal and musical skills.  The result is much more than well-prepared young musicians: it is also highly-refined performances capable of moving audiences by their artistry.

Dr. A. Dennis Sparger, Music Director
Bach Society of Saint Louis

“I can’t say in words how much I love being in Choir. The professionalism, hard work, friendships, and just plain fun are combined to create an experience that is very worthwhile.”

~ Nick Rubin

Come Sing With Us!

Auditioning for The St. Louis Children’s Choirs is easy! At auditions one of our directors will listen to your child sing and answer any questions you may have about the choirs. Students are asked to match pitches, clap some rhythms, and sing a song they know – “Twinkle, Twinkle Little Star” for the youngest, “Happy Birthday” or “ America the Beautiful” for third grade and above. Students who are ready for a choral experience are placed in a choir level that matches their musical ability.

Students do not need to have any private vocal training or a prepared solo for the audition. Singers auditioning for advanced choirs should be able to sight-sing a simple melody. Parents are welcome to sit in and listen to the audition if their child is comfortable having them present. Directors work hard to make auditions a positive experience and to help each child feel at ease.

We are interested in auditioning any child who loves to sing! Elementary students begin singing with the choirs in the 1st grade, and the most advanced touring choirs include students that are in high school. It is our goal to make this musical experience possible for any child who is interested and ready to sing. Financial aid is available to assist qualifying families with tuition costs.

How do I know if my child is ready?

Perhaps the most important question for you to consider is: Does my child love to sing? Experience has shown that motivated students naturally excel and succeed in the Children’s Choirs. We invite you to bring your child to one of our concerts so they can see for themselves what fun it is to sing in the Children's Choirs.

The ability to sing in tune develops at a time that is unique to each child. Like learning to play a sport, it is a skill each child masters step by step. We cannot accept students who are not yet able to match pitches accurately. In that situation, choir would be a difficult experience for them, and they might not enjoy it. However, we will invite them to return for an audition the following year. In many cases, we've seen that children who have not been quite ready to sing in a choir have waited and auditioned successfully a year later.
