World-Class Performing Opportunities

Performing with renowned musicians and conductors creates unforgettable experiences for the Choirs’ young singers. Based on a solid reputation of musical excellence, ensembles have shared the stage at Powell Symphony Hall and at some of the finest concert halls abroad. Tour performances have included the premiere a new choral version of Leonard Bernstein’s Mass at the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles; singing John Adams’ challenging On the Transmigration of Souls at Carnegie Hall with the Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra; two special holiday concerts at the White House; recording the “Rising Stars” program for the Australian Broadcasting Corporation in Sydney; and singing with full orchestra at Smetana Hall, the home of Prague’s Royal Orchestra.

Touring Experiences Develop Character

Touring is an integral part of the Children’s Choirs curriculum. Choir tours open the way for young artists to share their music with wider audiences, diverse cultures, and provide valuable opportunities for character development. Choir members learn to value the universal language of music and the contributions made by great composers to society, plus feel the rewards that come from performing for others. Community Outreach for Beginning and Intermediate Level Choirs

Each spring, beginning and intermediate ensembles perform in elementary and middle schools, at children’s hospitals, nursing homes, and for young people at the Detention Center at the Juvenile Courts. These first touring experiences, reach school children who often have little to no exposure to music, and bring joy to hundreds who might not otherwise be able to attend concerts.

Meeting Young Colleagues in
the United States and Abroad

Exchange visits with other choirs enable students to develop friendships with singers around the country and the world. Students in the advanced Choir ensembles tour nationally, and the advanced ensemble tours internationally. National tours often include concerts at music festivals and professional music conferences, including recent performances at Lincoln Center, in Los Angeles, at the University of Denver, and in New Orleans. At song sharings both at home and abroad, ensembles have performed with the Boys’ Choir of Kenya, the Young Voices of Colorado, Chicago’s Glen Ellyn/Anima, New York’s Young People’s Chorus, and Australian choirs in Brisbane, Sydney, and Melbourne.
