“It’s interesting that the word harmony is not only the blending of notes to music to create different tones, but also the blending of cultures in peace. Unlike words, music communicates across nations. …Touring in a foreign country and sharing your music as well as learning their music is the first step to a peaceful world. …Music will tear down walls and build bridges. I believe music made together will one day heal mankind.”

Tour performances in recent years have included: Carnegie Hall (April 2006), a concert at the White House (December 2003 & 2004), the honor of representing Missouri at the American Choral Director’s Association - Southwestern Division convention in Little Rock, Arkansas (March 2004), an hour long concert as the featured children’s choir at the Oregon Bach Festival (June 2003), singing with full orchestra at Prague’s Smetana Hall (July 2002), and headlining the National Children’s Choral Festival at Carnegie Hall (April 2001). Advanced choirs tour nationally and internationally and have appeared at some of the finest concert halls in Europe, Russia, Scandinavia, Japan, and the United Kingdom. Touring Experiences Develop Character Touring is an integral part of the Children’s Choirs curriculum. Choir tours open the way for young artists to share their music with wider audiences and provide valuable opportunities for character education. Young people learn the importance of discipline, teamwork, focused concentration, and commitment. As young ambassadors, choir members share their music with people around the world, learn to appreciate diverse cultures, and experience the rewards that come from doing their work well. Tours and Special Performances
Community Outreach for Beginning and Intermediate Level Choirs Each spring, beginning and intermediate choirs perform in area elementary and middle schools. Choir members also enjoy giving performances for hospitals, nursing homes, and for young people at the Juvenile Detention Center. These first touring experiences enable students to share their music with the community and bring joy to seniors who might not otherwise be able to attend concerts. Meeting Young Colleagues in the United States Students in Choristers, the advanced-intermediate ensemble, tour nationally each year. In June 2003, the choir performed with children’s choirs from around the country at the Crescent City Children’s Choir Festival in New Orleans. Exchange visits with other children’s choirs enable students to develop friendships with young colleagues around the country. The Choristers toured to Chicago in April 2004 and gave a joint concert with the Glen Ellyn Children’s Chorus after an exchange visit and performance in St. Louis earlier in fall 2003. |
