Volunteer with the Choirs

Successful operation of The St. Louis Children’s Choirs requires more than the capabilities of the directors, staff and board. Parental and caregiver involvement helps us keep the cost of operations down which in turn, keeps tuition costs down.
We encourage every parent/caregiver to be involved in some way during the year. Please read through the volunteer areas below, and identify a few tasks you are willing to take on. Fill out the form through the link to sign up.

CONCERT VOLUNTEERS
CHAPERONES
Chaperones assist and stay with students before, during, and after performances helping with hair, uniforms, and general supervision.
RISER CREW MEMBERS
Riser Crew volunteers are strong individuals who move wooden, metal, or plastic risers (platforms on which singers perform) into and out of the rehearsal / performance spaces and a truck or van.
USHERS
Ushers hand out programs and guide guests to their seats.
GIFT SHOP
As a Gift Shop volunteer, you’ll be the face of our Choir merchandise store.  You’ll handle cash, check, and credit card sales of t-shirts, hats, CDs, and other items.  The time commitment is before and after concerts, as well as intermission at the Holiday Concert.
GREETERS
Greeters welcome students, parents, and guests at the door before a concert or dress rehearsal. These volunteers usually stand outside to help give directions and encourage a steady flow of traffic. This position is only needed before a concert and not after.
ORGANIZATIONAL VOLUNTEERS
TRIVIA NIGHT & AUCTION
Our annual Fun(d)raiser is produced by a committee of fun and dedicated choir friends.  There are lots of different ways that you can help!  Check out all the available options on the Sign-Up Form.
BOARD COMMITTEES
  • DEVELOPMENT COMMITTEE – helps people appreciate and support the Choirs.  Committee members help identify and nurture people who are interested in giving to the Choirs.
  • MARKETING COMMITTEE – supports student recruitment activities, and community and teacher awareness.  Committee members provide information to contacts throughout the St. Louis area.
  • MUSIC EDUCATION COMMITTEE – provides feedback to the Artistic Director, and coordinates opportunities for singers to further their musical and leadership education.
FOREIGN LANGUAGE
Your knowledge of languages other than English, written or spoken, can deepen singers’ cultural understanding of the texts we sing.  Assistance is asked for literal and interpretive written translations, and for pronunciation help to ensure an authentic communication of the text in song.
REFRESHMENTS
Do you love snacks and goodies?  Sign up to donate refreshments and staff a table before or after Choir events.
PARENT COMMITTEE
Coordinates special projects including Trivia Night & Auction, Senior Recognition Night, and other events.
PARENT AMBASSADORS
Parents of returning singers can be Parent Ambassadors for new families, helping bring them into the Choir community.  Parent Ambassadors check in with new families a few times throughout the season, welcome them to special choir events, and serve as a community resource.
UNIFORM VOLUNTEERS
ROBE FITTINGS  – Chorale, Choristers, and Concert Choir Only
Help measure and fit students for their red performance robes during September rehearsals. Tasks include clerical work and physical activity such as bending, and reaching choir robes on hangers overhead.
VEST CAPTAINSMusic Makers and Children’s Choir Only
Our vest distribution, collection, and inventory procedures are tried and true, and we look forward to working with new volunteers this year. Vest Captains are responsible for:
– Fall Vest Fittings – See Ensemble Calendar for your section’s scheduled day
– November – prepare your ensemble section’s vests for Dress Rehearsal
– Holiday Dress Rehearsal & Concert – Lay out vests in warm up rooms, coordinate hand out and collection with Vest Helpers.
– December – return vests to storage
– Last week of April – Spring Vest Fittings during regular rehearsal time
– First week of May – turn vests from red to gold; prepare your ensemble section’s vests for concert
– Spring Concerts – Lay out vests in warm up rooms, coordinate hand out and collection with Vest Helpers.
– Second week of May – return vests to storage.
One vest captain is needed for each section of Children’s Choir and one for each night of Music Makers rehearsals. Training is provided so that you are comfortable with all that goes into this important position.
VEST HELPERSMusic Makers and Children’s Choir Only
Measure students for vests in the Fall and Spring. Your help is also needed before and after the Holiday Dress Rehearsal & Concert, Spring Concert to distribute and collect vests to students.

PHOTOGRAPHY
Help build our photo archive.  Contact the Choir Office for details.
UNIFORMS – SEWING & ALTERATIONS
Throughout the year, occasional fixes are needed on vest buttons, robe hems or zippers.
LAUNDRY SERVICES – SUMMER ROBE WASHERS
Each summer between 200 and 300 robes are washed by a team of volunteers. Consider joining us in this annual tradition!
GIFT SHOP INVENTORY MANAGER
The Gift Shop needs someone to prepare inventory sheets and pack merchandise for transport before each concert. After a concert, help is needed unpacking and tracking sales.
OFFICE VOLUNTEER
Help with filing, inventory, organizing, phone calls, data entry, and special projects as needs arise.
LIGHT BUILDING MAINTENANCE
Can you paint a fence, hang a mirror, or have the equipment to power wash a building?  Can you stabilize an office cubical wall, repair tile, or replace a faucet?  We’d love to give you a call for help or advice when these sorts of situations come up.  You may be just who we need!
MUSIC LIBRARY ASSISTANT
Music Library Assistants help count, stamp, and file newly purchased music.  We also need help keeping the Microsoft Access library database up to date.
