A Message from the Board

Through your generous gifts of leadership, time and talent, the St. Louis Children’s Choirs accomplished a great deal in 2015-16. Together with our amazing staff, volunteers and young singers, we experienced great growth and increased community outreach – while maintaining historically high standards of excellence in music education and performance.

Last season, our diverse group of 450 students performed at seven seasonal concerts, and many also sang with the Bach Society at their annual Christmas Candlelight Concert, the Ambassadors of Harmony’s Sounds of the Seasons concerts, and at a stunning collaborative performance of Carmina Burana with the Nashville Ballet, UMSL Singers, and the Bach Society. Over 20,000 community members embraced their gift of song. In June, members of Choristers, Concert Choir, and Chamber Singers toured to Oregon for the Pacific International Choral Festival. The Choirs’ Summer Music Camp for elementary students performed a joint concert with our High School Vocal Jazz Camp in July.

Last season, the Choirs increased financial aid for students from low-income families. We also continued to offer professional development opportunities for music teachers through our Music Teacher Workshop in October and ongoing individual support throughout the school year.

Bravo to our Volunteers and Supporters!

Each year over 200 volunteers come together to help make all of our performances possible. From serving as an Usher or Chaperone on concert days to helping count the sheet music in our ever expanding Music Library, volunteer help us keep the engine of the Choirs’ running smoothly.

Special thanks to our Summer Alumni Volunteer, Annie Donnell (class of 2015). Annie helped make phone calls throughout the summer to new and returning students. As a direct result of her phone calls, our student retention rate from 2015-16 to 2016-17 increased to 77%. Thank you Annie!

Every day, our students and supporters have a positive impact on children and adults we may never meet in ways that we may never even know. Whether through performances or serving as young ambassadors for St. Louis when on tour, our young singers shine! We have an even more exciting year ahead in 2016-17 with many opportunities to hear our fine young students singing in their ensembles as well as with the St. Louis Symphony, Ambassadors of Harmony, the Bach Society, and more.

I’m looking forward to the new season, and I hope you are too!
