Position: Collaborative Pianist
Reports to: Ensemble Director and Artistic Director
Status: Academic calendar year, part-time, weekly, non-exempt, $50/hr
Mission Focus
Bring your experience and professionalism to provide collaborative piano accompaniment for rehearsals and performances from late-August through mid-May. Be an integral member of our dynamic artistic and educational team. Your mastery of diverse musical styles and repertoire will support a highly qualified ensemble director who nurtures a love of music and a desire for artistic excellence in our young singers. Be a vital contributor to the positive environment expressed in all the activities of the Choirs that fulfill the mission of “transforming lives through musical excellence.”
Essential Duties
- Accompany rehearsals with artistic integrity and a thorough knowledge of the score
- Follow the Director’s conducting gesture to ensure that the accompaniment reflects the tempo,
dynamics, phrasing, style, and appropriate balance with the voices - Accompany all rehearsals, performances, and tours as assigned
- Rehearse with guest instrumentalists for performances
- Record practice tracks with directors as needed
- Interact positively, respectfully, and warmly with staff, students, families, and audience members
- Follow operating procedures and safety protocols
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in music or equivalent experience in piano performance; proficient in sight-reading
- Minimum of 2 years accompanying experience preferred
- Strong knowledge of piano repertoire, concert preparation, and performance practice
- A sincere interest, enthusiasm, and love of working with young people
- Conscientious work ethic, accuracy, thoroughness, and artistry
- Able to respond positively and professionally to any situation
- Able to work evenings and weekends to support concerts and special events
- Able to participate in choir tours as needed
- An audition with the Artistic Director is required and positions are evaluated yearly
