Jacqueline Mather – known affectionately by SLCC singers, parents, and staff as “Nana” – was a quiet, steady, and thoughtful presence within The St. Louis Children’s Choirs. In her nearly twenty years she performed thousands of hours of volunteerism. Nana’s legacy is one of remarkable service, quiet dedication, and above all, love. She was, after all, Barbara Berner’s mother. She loved the Choirs dearly, just as Mrs. Berner does.
Charlotte Bohlmann has dedicated much of the last 40 years of her life to The St. Louis Children’s Choirs. While her children, Laura and Dan, sang with the Choirs in the 80s and 90s, she toured to Russia, Scandinavia, Scotland, and Germany as a chaperone. She served on the board of directors and the alumni committee for many years. Today, Charlotte is a proud Choir grandmother, as her granddaughters Georgia and Iris sing with SLCC. Her oldest son, Greg, currently serves on the board of directors and his wife Melissa supports the Choirs generously through their family businesses. Charlotte continues to volunteer helping to produce fundraiser and community events, day to day administrative tasks in the office, set decoration for the annual holiday concert and of course, preparing our roses for the holiday and spring concerts. She is always willing to help, often with very little notice. Her only requirement is a cup of coffee from McDonald’s.
The St. Louis Children’s Choirs is an incredibly healing and special place. As times change, as trends come and go, and even as leadership evolves, Charlotte’s vast wisdom, her encyclopedic knowledge of SLCC’s history, and her gentle but firm way of reminding Mr. Nordstrom and Dr. Moore what we should be thinking about ensure that we remain close to our core values and our culture at SLCC - these are the things that keep children and families coming back year after year, generation after generation to make music together. It is our privilege to honor Charlotte as a wonderful volunteer, and more than that, a beloved friend and mentor.
