New Board Member: Bjorn Ranheim

The St. Louis Children’s Choirs are delighted to welcome Bjorn Ranheim to our Board of Directors. Bjorn Ranheim is a cellist equally at home in the orchestra, on the chamber stage, and in genre-bending collaborations. A member of the Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra and Assistant Principal Cello of the Sun Valley Music Festival, he previously served as principal cellist of the Colorado Music Festival and has performed with leading orchestras across the country.

A dynamic and versatile performer, Ranheim has appeared as soloist with ensembles including the Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra and New World Symphony, and has collaborated with artists such as James Ehnes, Jean-Yves Thibaudet, and Augustine Hadelich. His performances have taken him from Carnegie Hall to the Guggenheim Museum Bilbao and festivals across the U.S., Europe, and Central America.

Deeply committed to musical exploration, he has worked with jazz greats including Branford Marsalis and Christian McBride and is a founding member of The 442s, an ensemble known for its inventive, cross-genre programming. A champion of new music, he has premiered works by Stephen Paulus and others.

Beyond the stage, Ranheim is an active leader and advocate, serving as Co-Chair of the Saint Louis Symphony Orchestra Musicians’ Council and as a musician representative on the SLSO Board of Directors. He is also a dedicated educator, working regularly with young musicians through the New World Symphony and other training programs.
