After graduating with a Masters Of Arts in Teaching Degree from Indiana University in Bloomington, IN, Mrs Broyles taught music at Mason Ridge Elementary for 19 years before retiring from Parkway West Middle after teaching vocal music for 11 years. When Mrs Broyles is not teaching and conducting children, she enjoys spending time with her family/friends, traveling, reading, and exercising with Zumba!
I have been with SLCC for 25 years. This is my 26th season going by the academic calendar.
There are several aspects of my work in choral music that I find very fulfilling. First, I love working with young people within a community, who are as passionate about singing as I am. Second, watching the vocal and choral confidence of young singers progress and grow over time is such a joy to witness. Finally, encouraging and helping children achieve musical excellence while building lasting relationships with their peers is the foundation of my teaching.
Young singers are so wonderful to work with and teach. They are like little sponges…so excited to soak up all the new musical knowledge and experiences that I can give them.
I am very excited about the future for SLCC. The music reading labs, implemented by Dr. Moore, have been a wonderful addition to the SLCC choral curriculum . Singers are transferring their knowledge from these musicianship classes into their octavos and vocal pedagogy. In addition, SLCC continues to be an organization that strives to bring children together from diverse cultures, communities, and all walks of life while keeping musical excellence at its foundation.
SLCC is a welcoming and inclusive organization to all children who enjoy singing. In addition, it is a space where a high code of conduct is expected from its singers. As a result, our youth are striving for musical excellence while practicing a high level of character development.
